What happens at a NUTRITIONAL CONSULTATION?
Personalised nutrition interventions are based on a detailed assessment of your diet, lifestyle, family history and medical history, in order to address underlying factors that contribute to ill-health and restore balance in body systems to manage health.
My Approach:
My approach is hands-on and personal. On booking your consultation, I will ask you to complete a questionnaire, which is to be returned for preliminary analysis before the initial consultation. During the initial consultation (lasting approximately 75- 90 minutes), I take a detailed case history, building on the information from the questionnaire, alongside recommending clinic tests where appropriate.
Using this information, we will work together to agree on a programme for you to follow. The programme will work to enhance the systems in the body, such as digestive function, strengthening the immune system, balancing blood sugar levels and helping the body’s natural detoxification pathways.
During this consultation we may also discuss the need for functional laboratory tests to fully investigate the underlying causes of your displaying symptoms, as well as the use of supplements if needed.
What you can expect:
As a nutritional therapist I provide expert advice that enables you to make lifestyle changes and consume the foods and nutrients required to help you optimise your metabolism and promote well being and quality of life.
Before the consultation:
Before we meet, you will be asked to complete and return a comprehensive health questionnaire, providing me with information about your current health, past health, family health history, and medications. This helps me understand your objectives and starting point, so we can make the most of our time together. You will also be asked to keep a record of what you eat and drink for 3 to 5 days
Initial Consultation
Initial consultations last for about 75-90 minutes. I ask a lot of questions to gather all the information needed to assess your health, explain findings and negotiate a personalised programme that works for you.
After the consultation you will receive:
- a summary report with explanations and recommendations
- personalised food and lifestyle plan
- a supplement protocol, if appropriate
- recommendations of functional laboratory tests if required
- a letter sent to your GP if required
- A follow up call to ensure your understanding
- Email support for short questions
Follow-up Consultation:
Follow up consultation last for about 30-45 minutes and take place every 4-6 weeks, depending on the programme. In these meetings we assess your goals, evaluate progress, discuss any functional tests and refine your on-going programme.
After the follow-up consultation you will receive:
- a summary of your goals, progress, and recommendations
- updated Personalised food and lifestyle plan, if required
- adjusted supplement protocol, if required
- further recommendations of functional laboratory tests if required
- a letter sent to your GP if required
How many consultations will you need?
- This depends upon your individual circumstances, although clients will always be seen for an initial and a follow-up consultation. Clients with more complex issues may request further appointments to meet their nutritional health goals.
Before embarking on a nutritional therapy programme, you should always consult your primary healthcare team about any health concerns that you may have.
